About Darrell Sofield

Founder: Darrell Sofield, L.G.
Darrell is a trained geologist and geomorphologist with 10 years of consulting and GIS (Geographical Information Systems) experience; he taught physical geography at Western Washington University and served as a board member for the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists. Yes, he has the technical experience to make Amazing Maps for you to use, but more importantly, he absolutely loves being outside, which makes his maps usable and accurate.

Darrell has been cross-country skiing and running for as long as he can remember. As an adult, he added mountain biking, road biking, and kayaking to his regular activities. On any given day, Darrell is probably out biking and running local Bellingham and Seattle trails, paddling at Lake Whatcom, skiing or biking in the Methow Valley in eastern Washington, or exploring new areas of the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia.

Amazing Maps customers benefit from this love and passion for the outdoors. The trails on the RightMAPS are all ones that Darrell has been on himself; because of this, the most epic trails and scenic trails identified on the maps are based on actual experience. The best viewpoints, the directions that make sense (should you go counter clockwise or clockwise on a loop trail?), and the logistics of getting to the trails are also based on his experiences out there. Take a look and you’ll see that a lot of time and effort has gone into making a quality product that is also informative (we like to call them guidebooks that fit in your pocket). This means you can enjoy our local trails as much as Darrell does… if you ever see him out on the trail – stop and say hello, or better yet, invite him to join you on your adventure!
